I was born in Walton-on-Thames, Surrey, while my father was working there. (pictured: the site of the cottage where I was born, with a backdrop of the manor house there.)
We returned to Wales when I was 3 years old, to Bridgend, where my father set up a plastics factory on the Trading Estate, now the Bridgend Industrial Estate.
In 1960, after a turbulent 9 years, my mother and 4 of us children moved to Porthcawl, where we settled. I lived there too as a young wife and mother, before moving to a quaint and fairly primitive house in the Amman Valley in a 'back to nature' attempt that wasn't as romantic as it sounds, but was great fun anyway!
We moved back to Porthcawl in 1990 and I have happily remained here. (If anyone wishes to know any more details about my early life, they can be found in my books 'My Lovely Arms")
Just a snippet about my family - they all have their own lives and their own stories, so I won't be going into detail here. Just a flavour through some pictures.
I have 5 daughters, 9 grandchildren and one great-granddaughter, and they are the most important people in the world to me.
My husband Brian died in 2018 - we had been together for nearly 40 years, and he was my best friend. He had a larger-than-life personality; he was very clever and very funny; he loved classical music and welsh hymns, and he knew a lot about many things. He had retired as a Senior Lecturer in Engineering at Afan College, was a respected chief examiner with the City & Guilds, and tutored many young people throughout his retirement. He is missed every day.
I also have 3 sisters and a brother, some scattered across the globe, but thanks to modern technology we are able to keep in touch regularly.
